Correctional Officer of the Year honors Sgt. Tyler Babbie

ODOC’s Correctional Officer of the Year honors an officer who has distinguished him or herself by showing extreme professionalism, responsibility, initiative, and dedication. This year’s recipient is Sgt. Tyler Babbie, the facility key and tool officer at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center, where he began his career as a cadet in 2014. Sgt. Babbie excels at maintaining inventories, repairing locks and keys -- ensuring document maintenance according to policy.

His supervisors describe him as a model security officer with an unimpeachable work ethic and wealth of knowledge. He also helps train new hires, helping them adjust to corrections.

Sgt. Babbie is also a proud member of D-O-C’s Honor Guard, representing the agency at dozens of funerals, graduations, special services and other events all over the country. He is also a Correctional Emergency Response Team volunteer at Mabel Bassett, a self-defense instructor, and sponsor of the Get Hooked! inmate crochet program.

In his spare time, Babbie helps his wife raise their seven children, while also studying physics at Seminole State College. He is a member of the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation and Correctional Workers Association.
